Abstract
This paper describes English prepositions that serve as a means of instrumental case relations.
Instrumental semantics is defined on the basis of Russian - a language where it finds expression by
means of case category. The prepositions that occur in the English equivalents constructions with the
instrumental case are the prepositions «with», «by», «for», «from», «as», «like», «of», «in», «at». The
analysis of the semantics of constructions helps us to determine which prepositions can be used to
express some private instrumental meanings.
